The Flat Astronauts are a para-military organization dedicated to the Exploration of Time and Space. Their headquarters are located 99 floors beneath the earth, in a secret installation known as Horizontal Control.

They are funded by private, classified sources. The leader of the group is General Zzaaxx, a frog-faced alien, who issues commands from behind a leather desk in a dark atmospheric board room. They test various vehicles and technologies involving dimensional and temporal travel.

They also have a covert division which engages in tracking down super-villains who mis-use time and space for their own fiendish devices. The Flat Astronauts often enlist freelance travelers such as Bus DDTMilkithin and Cobalt to help them accomplish some of their more perilous and complex missions.
